After being caught on camera at Goodison Park last season taking a cellphone from a young Everton supporter’s hands, Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged by the Football Association.
On April 9, 2022, at Goodison, following Everton’s 1-0 victory against United, Ronaldo smashed the phone to the ground as he limped down the tunnel.
The 37-year-old was given a conditional caution by Merseyside Police after speaking with officers about the incident, but he has since been charged by the English game’s governing body.
Ronaldo will now have to answer to the FA after being accused of an offense including “improper and/or violent” conduct.
A statement from the FA says: “Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for an incident that took place after Manchester United FC’s Premier League match against Everton FC on Saturday 9 April 2022. It is alleged that the forward’s conduct after the final whistle was improper and/or violent.”
