Habits You Should Avoid If You Have Diabetes

It is normal to feel anxious and very worried after you’re diagnosed with diabetes. Due to the several misinformation on the internet, diabetes patients might find themselves carrying out actions that might make their condition even worse or in some cases endanger their lives.

Some diabetes patients don’t listen to their doctor’s advice, others decide to change their dosages to suit their schedules without speaking to the doctor first. This is very wrong. You shouldn’t also take herbs and concoct them from unverified sources claiming a rapid cure for diabetes. In this article, I’ll like to enlighten you about some wrong actions of diabetes according to WebMD.

1. You skip your checkups

The drugs you are taking could have suppressed the obvious symptoms of diabetes but that does not mean that you’re completely free from the disease. You may even develop other health issues which do not show symptoms hence you need to regularly go for checkups to monitor your cholesterol, blood pressure, kidneys, eyes, gums, and teeth.

2. You’re not getting quality sleep

Experts have revealed that sleeping less than 7 to 9 hours could endanger the life of a diabetes patient and increase your risk of having other medical conditions. When you don’t sleep enough, it may make it more difficult for your body to control your blood sugar and blood pressure levels. If you can’t sleep normally, speak to your doctor.

3. Taking medications incorrectly or skipping your dosages

This is a very dangerous action for diabetes patients. You should never change the original prescription given to you by a medical doctor for any reason. Don’t change your doses or skip them unless you have spoken with your doctor. If you’re not comfortable with your drug usage, you should speak to your doctor
