The last meeting between representatives of the federal government and leadership of the Academic Union of Universities (ASUU) ended in deadlock as no agreement was reached. Students of the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) who were on the streets protesting the lingering strike were accosted by soldiers. The students continued with their demonstration and confronted the security officers chanting solidarity songs.
However, the security agents handled the matter professionally without causing controversy while the students continued to peacefully demand for immediate resumption of academic activities in all the tertiary institutions across the country. The ASUU strike is generating conflicting reactions among members of the general public especially across social media platforms.
The federal government and other stakeholders have failed to reach an agreement despite several meetings which ended in deadlock. President Muhammadu Buhari has recently expressed commitment to resolving the lingering strike but nothing has been achieved up till this moment.
